Sillä välin, kun Aker Yards taistelee Suomen telakoillaan saadakseen tilatut alukset valmiiksi, italialainen Fincantieri nappaa uusia risteilyalustilauksia, ja vieläpä uusilta asiakkailta.

Torstaina CMA CGM ilmoitti tilaavansa Fincantierilta kaksi 140-metristä luksusegmentin alusta.

CMA CGM orders cruiseships from Fincantieri
By Andrew Spurrier in Paris - Thursday 7 February 2008

CMA CGM has signed a preliminary agreement with Italy's Fincantieri for the construction of two luxury 130-cabin cruise ships for its cruise subsidiary Compagnie des Iles du Ponant (CIP).

The group was unwilling to say what the value of the contract would be but indicated that it expected to take delivery of the two new vessels in the second quarter of 2010 and that it would probably operate them under French flag.

CMA CGM said last year that it was planning to order new ships for CIP, France's biggest French flag cruise ship operator, which currently has a fleet of three vessels with capacity for 64, 90 and 226 passengers.

At the time, it was talking in terms of 200-passenger vessels but has apparently opted now to go for vessels of higher capacity.

The new 140m long vessels will have 130 cabins and suites, all of them on the outside and 75% of them with balcony.

The group said that the two vessels would be equipped with dynamic positioning to enable them to avoid damaging the sea bed when they were lying offshore.

It promised that they would have a "unique atmosphere and very high quality services", with one vessel offering Asia-Pacific destinations and the other destinations in South America, Antarctica and the Mediterranean.

CIP, which was founded in 1988 and was taken over by CMA CGM in July 2004, carried 11,000 passengers and generated revenues totalling E36m in 2007.

It said in September that it had invited tenders from a number of shipyards with a view to placing an order before the end of the year.

Its existing fleet comprises: the Le Ponant, a three-masted sailing ship with 32 cabins delivered in 1991, the 45-cabin Le Levant delivered in 1998 and the 1972-built, 113-cabin Le Diamant, acquired in 2004.

:thumb:

Edit: Meinas unohtua, Ne jopa kyttää niiden sitä isoa tenderiä pahvilaatikko varastona, se on tumpattu piukkaa pahvi lodjuja,,mikä näkyy niin ulospäin ja laivan omille matkustajille...eli ei näin ulkoa päin saa mikään kovin loisteliasta kuvaa.
