Genoa, 23 April 2008 - Costa Cruises has announced a new important appointment in the Technical Operations Department. 

Matti Heikkinen has been appointed Vice-President of the company's Technical Operations, reporting to the President Gianno Onorato. As of April 28, he will oversee the Costa Cruises fleet's massive expansion program, based on which 5 new ships will be delivered by 2012, and all commissioned to Fincantieri in Italy, for a total investment of 2.4 billion euros. Matti Heikkinen will also manage the upgrading and maintenance of the 12 Costa ships currently in service, in compliance with the very highest standards of safety and technical reliability, while ensuring the evolution of the Technical Operations Department and of the ships' technical management procedures by introducing the methods, the processes and the technical quality indicators needed to tackle the fleet expansion program. Among these challenging commitments, he will also provide support for organizing the deck and engine departments on board Costa ships.

Matti Heikkinen was born in Turku (Finland) in 1961, and he is married with 2 children. He is joining Costa backed by twenty years of shipbuilding experience after working in various key positions in the Aker Yards Group, where he was Director of the Turku Yard in Finland.
