"A VERY BIG SHIP is under way at the Aker boat yard in Finland. Under
the title of ‘Project Genesis’, Royal Caribbean International has
ordered a new cruise liner coming in at the colossal displacement of
220,000 tons. Compare that with the Titanic at 46,000 tons, the
original Queen Mary at 83,000 tons and QM2 at 150,000 tons. When full,
the ship will carry 5,400 clients and although the company will not
disclose figures, somewhere around 1,750 crew. One of London’s largest
hotels, the Millennium Tara in Kensington, has room for 1,700 plus
guests in 864 rooms, and the London Palladium, the largest variety
theatre in the country 2,325. Delivery will be autumn 2009. Airline
seat brokers should line up. A great deal of capacity will be needed
to get passengers to and from the vessel every seven days."
