Cunard alert after threat to QE2

CUNARD former flagship vessel QE2 is reported to be under guard in Alexandria, Egypt, today after being the subject of a security threat. Both Cunard and the UK Department for Transport confirmed having received "certain information" , AP reported today. Cunard spokesman Michael Gallagher told Fairplay he was unable to disclose details of the threat, but pointed to a company statement saying Cunard did not believe there was any cause for alarm. However, the statement said the ship had been put on a higher security level during and after its northbound transit of the Suez canal. It received a police boat escort during its Canal transit and has police guards both at sea and onshore at Alexandria, according to the widely-broadcast press report. The 70,000 gt QE2 is said to be carrying 1,700 passengers on a world cruise, with the next scheduled port of call being Kusadasi in Turkey.

Turvatilan nostamisia tapahtuu risteilyaluksilla aina välillä. Useimmiten sitä ei matkustajat edes huomaa...
