Aker Yards and Viking Line signed LOI for a passenger ferry
Aker Yards and Viking Line Abp have signed a Letter of Intent for delivering a passenger ferry in January 2008. The contract value is within the range EUR 110-130 million. The agreement includes options for two similar vessels.
Aker Yards is planning to build the vessel in Finland, at its yard in Helsinki, where one vessel would give about 1,300 man years of work. In August, it was announced that the Helsinki yard would be made one of the most cost effective yards for building ferries in the industry.
"Viking Line is an old acquaintance of Aker Yards. Previous
deliveries for the company include seven vessels, the latest built being MS Cinderella. We are looking forward to excellent cooperation between our two companies also in this new challenging project", says Yrjö Julin, President of Aker Finnyards and responsible for Cruise & Ferries in Aker Yards.
